Australian Citizenship

Australian citizenship is a privilege that offers enormous rewards. By becoming an Australian citizen, you are joining a unique national community and making an ongoing commitment to Australia and all that this country stands for.

To become an Australian citizen there are a number of processes that need to be followed. The first step is to contact the Department of Home Affairs, who can be contacted on 13 18 80 or you can visit their website at www.homeaffairs.gov.au . Alternatively, you can mail them at GPO Box 241, Melbourne VIC 3001.

Once your citizenship has been approved by the Department, Mansfield Shire Council is required to conduct a Citizenship Ceremony as set out in the Australian Citizenship Ceremonies Code.

Ceremonies are conducted by the Mayor once notification has been received from the Department of Home Affairs.

For additional information, please contact the Department of Immigration on 131 880, or visit www.homeaffairs.gov.au .

Alternatively, contact Council’s Executive Assistant, on 5775 8555.
