Community Planning in Merrijig

The first Merrijig Community Plan was developed in 2006, through community meetings and a survey.  Since then, members of the community have worked with Council to complete some of the projects in the plan including the renovation of the Merrijig Public Hall.

Six years on it is time for a review.  We will revisit the profile of and we will talk about your visions for the future.

The process so far:

On Sunday April 1, 2012 the first in a series of community planning activities took place at the Merrijig Public Hall. At the workshop the Merrijig community members documented what they loved about Merrijig and their visions and ideas for its future. To read through the many suggestions and the priority projects identified on the day, Download the report for the first Merrijig workshop here.

Merrijig Community Planning Survey

The ideas generated at the workshop in April were put into a survey which was sent every rate payer so that we could hear from as many community members as possible and make sure that the community plan accurately reflects your visions for the future.  101 surveys were completed and returned. Download the Merrijig Community Planning survey results here.

Reviewing the Survey Results

In October, 2012 the Merrijig community worked together to prioritise the projects through reviewing the survey results, investigating which projects were feasible. The preferred projects were included in a draft Community Plan for the community to comment on and after a number of revisions the plan has been finalised.  The plan was finalised and presented to Council in May 2013.

The community has been busy rolling out the actions with a regular and very informative newsletter being produced monthly and a fun social calendar being created. The first event, a poetry afternoon was a huge hit.
