Events are a way of life in Mansfield Shire and there is something on practically every weekend. The municipality has developed a reputation for hosting events of local and state significance.
Events can provide a wide range of social, economic and cultural benefits to the community. Management of a safe and successful event requires detailed planning and consultation.
The definition of an event includes any planned activity where any structure (permanent or temporary), open area, roadway, fenced or unfenced location will contain a number of persons greater than that normally found in that area. This activity may affect the location or surrounding area prior to, during or after the event.
The event management planning guide that Council uses was developed by a committee consisting of Victorian Authorities and Emergency Services, to assist all those people and organisations that become involved in the management of major events.
The Victorian Government has directed that substantial improvements are made to the planning and running of events so that the wellbeing of patrons is protected. The event management planning guide will help event managers and event organising committees ensure that events are safe and enjoyable for all participants. It provides useful prompts for information, identifies established standards that should be met and nominates other organisations that may need to be involved in the approval process (or notified of the event).
In addition to the completed guide, Council may require additional information and other approvals through Council may be required - such as Planning Permit, road closure or management plans and food sale endorsement. Council also allocates a budget each year to support new and innovative events and event managers may apply for this funding.
