Naming of a new road in Jamieson

November 14, 2017

NAMING OF A NEW ROAD
Council is proposing to name a road (lane) located at 93-99 Jamieson Licola Road, Jamieson.

We have consulted with the community on the naming of this lane on two previous occasions, with the proposed names being Lauradale Lane and Lloyd Lane. At a public meeting held in Jamieson on 4 November 2017 it was decided not to proceed with either proposal and we now seek further name submissions from the community.

When proposing a new name we ask that you consider the following principles:

• A name that connects today’s community to their own stories
• A name that celebrates Jamieson – its people, places, stories-past and present
• A name that helps tell an important story
• A name that links people to their physical location and environment
• A name that embraces many cultures and communities
• A name that is distinctive,
• A name that is evocative, creative or intriguing and encourages as sense of curiosity.

All naming submissions must comply with the statutory requirements of 'Naming Rules for Places in Victoria – Statutory Requirements for Naming Roads, Features and Localities 2016' - visit www.delwp/vicgov.au/namingplaces for further information.

Submissions must be received by 5.00pm on Friday, 15 December 2017, and can be emailed to rates@mansfield.vic.gov.au or posted to Private Bag 1000, Mansfield 3724.

Once the submissions have closed, Council officers will progress the statutory process for naming a new road, including:

• Review name submissions against the Naming Rules for compliance
• Select the “best fit” from the compliant submissions and issue a formal proposal to name the road
• Invite public comment and / or objections to the proposal (30 day exhibition period)
• Review all objections and comments for validity
• Prepare a full report for a Council meeting
• Councillors make a determination by resolution
