Applications Open for Outlying Communities Infrastructure Fund
Published on 28 October 2021
Outlying communities within Mansfield Shire can now apply for up $20,000 to develop facilities that enhance their community. Applications are open now until Monday 23 December 2021.
Council has committed $50,000 to the program, which aims to improve community facilities that enhance liveability, and improve resilience and connectivity in outlying communities within the Shire.
Mayor Cr Mark Holcombe said Council recognised the critical role of community facilities in outlying towns.
“Last year we were proud to fund a new upgraded community play park in Merton, improvements to the Tolmie Reserve facilities and development of tiered seating at the oval at the Bonnie Doon Recreational Reserve.
“These funds went a long way to strengthening our outlying communities. We look forward to receiving new applications,” said Cr Holcombe.
Eligible applicants include incorporated not-for-profits and community groups. Eligible projects include capital improvements to facilities or land that would have a community benefit. Projects must be located within the Shire but outside of the Mansfield township.
Last year the Tolmie Mechanics Institute and Recreation Reserve received $10,000 for the Refurbishment of the Tolmie Reserve Shower Block and Disabled Facility. Linda Terry, Treasurer, said “We are very grateful for the opportunity and we are very excited about the completed makeover of our facilities.”
Margaret FitzGerald, Committee member for Merton Recreation and Memorial Reserves said “The Community Play Park for Merton is a wonderful addition to our community resources, enhancing our community connectedness, building support and resilience amongst all those who gather to build and use the play equipment.”
Groups or organisations in a community in which another group or organisation was awarded a grant last year, are still eligible for a grant this year.
Council also encourages multiple applications for this fund from the same community.
If this sounds like something your community would benefit from, go to mshire.co/grants to apply online. A paper copy of the application can be obtained from the Mansfield Shire Council office.
