This year’s high rainfall has increased Mansfield Shire’s risk of grassfire. With increased vegetation across the Shire, Council is asking the community to prepare their properties for summer and minimise fire hazards around their properties.
Some recommendations for ensuring your property is fire safe include:
Council is responsible for ensuring the risk of wildfire is reduced across the Shire and has the authority to inspect private land and serve Fire Prevention Notices directing residents or property owners to take action to remove fire hazards.
Mayor Cr Mark Holcombe said that everyone had a role to play in keeping our community safe this fire season.
“Council takes fire prevention very seriously as we know how devastating fire can be to our community,” said Cr Holcombe.
CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said, “Victoria is one of the most bushfire-prone areas in the world, and even a normal fire season can present a high risk to communities.
“I encourage all Victorians to plan and prepare for their safety and ensure that everyone in their household knows what to do on hot, dry, windy days when fires can start and spread quickly.”
If you have any questions about how to prepare your property, contact Council’s Municipal Fire Prevention Officer on 5775 8555 or your local CFA Brigade.
