Community members are invited to write a special message on a Christmas card in memory of a loved one, friend or special pet who is missed at this time of year and hang their card on the Christmas Tree of Remembrance at the Mansfield Library.
The Christmas tree and cards are available at the Library, 2 Collopy Street Mansfield until 12 noon Tuesday 24 December.
The Christmas Tree of Remembrance is a joint initiative of Mansfield’s Life’s Circle team and Mansfield Library.
Life’s Circle member Helen Seiker said “Christmas is a celebration for many, but for some it marks the realisation that we are missing family and friends at a time where we may get together to share a meal or Christmas party.
“Writing a few words on a card is a lovely way of quietly contemplating and honouring the special place the person or pet has had in your life.”
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said he was pleased to be able to offer a place for community members to write a card to those they miss this Christmas.
‘The Christmas tree for remembrance at the Library is in its sixteenth year. Traditions like this are at the heart of Christmas. This is an opportunity to remember those who are no longer here to celebrate Christmas with us,” he said.
