Works are now complete on a major upgrade to Barwite Road. The $214,600 project rectifies long-term issues with the surface quality of the road through the installation of major culverts and drains.

Mayor Cr James Tehan said he was pleased with the outcome of the project, which would significantly enhance the road.

“The road has caused issues for residents and has been a subject of concern for years” said Cr Tehan.

“We’ve invested more than ever in our road network. This major upgrade rectifies long-term issues on this road and reflects our commitment to safe, efficient roads that are well looked after.”

Mansfield Shire Council General Manager Infrastructure and Planning Kirsten Alexander said the new, more extensive drainage infrastructure responded to the issues presented by Barwite Road’s landscape and local topography.

“Council officers have been on site monitoring progress and inspecting each stage of the program. We’re pleased with the works completed by Alpine Civil and confident that these upgrades will enhance Barwite Road’s surface seal and durability in the long term,” said Ms Alexander.

The project included the installation of seven culverts, resealing, and the digging of table drains. Works are expected to reduce road maintenance costs and ongoing road-surface issues.

The project is the subject of a mini-documentary produced by Council. Go to Council’s YouTube channel to learn more about the installation of the culverts and how they redirect water from the road to enhance road quality
