Council Adopts Mansfield Botanic Park Masterplan
Published on 27 October 2023
Council is delighted to unveil the newly adopted Mansfield Botanic Park Masterplan. The final plan was the culmination of extensive community consultation and is dedicated to enhancing and expanding this much-loved recreational space and community meeting place.
Initiated through funding received from the Victorian Government’s Outdoor Activation Grant, the Masterplan was created in collaboration with Michael Smith and Associates. Their expertise laid the groundwork for the plan, which was later refined in-house following community feedback.
The Masterplan includes several transformative projects:
- A central avenue enhancing park accessibility and providing additional carparking
- A new wetland area complemented by BBQ shelters
- A dedicated dog off-leash space addressing community concerns over dog control
- A mountain biking circuit
- An inclusive garden catering to all age groups
- A multipurpose amphitheatre designed for events, performances, and picnics
Several rounds of community engagement were undertaken throughout the Masterplan's development. From site walks to workshops, online surveys, and direct mail-outs, Council has provided diverse opportunities for many community voices to be heard.
Feedback from these platforms directly influenced the plan's direction, with notable adjustments made to the proposed central avenue based on community submissions.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said Mansfield Botanic Park is more than green space; it's the heart of our community.
“This Masterplan was essential to make sure that the future expansion and development of the park is well-planned, and that it respects and enhances what we know the community love about Botanic Park. We are committed to balancing recreational needs with a welcoming park environment that is sustainable and easy to maintain,” he said.
"Council was really happy to see the number of community members who took the time to give their feedback on the plan. Council has listened to the community submissions and they have been instrumental in shaping this plan. Whether it's about dog control, park amenities, or environmental concerns, the feedback has been invaluable.
“We're proud to present a plan that truly resonates with the vision of our residents."
