Council Approves Childcare Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool
Published on 13 October 2023
Council was pleased to approve a planning permit at the most recent meeting in September for a Childcare Centre and Indoor Pool at 2 Greenvale Lane Mansfield.
The matter was referred to Council for consideration as the estimated cost of works exceeded the maximum $3 million delegation for value of works, with an estimated cost of the development being $3.5 million.
The permit application proposed a Childcare Centre with capacity for 100 children and an indoor swimming pool comprising of a 25m x 10m pool and a 4.5m x 4.5m hydro-therapy pool. Timeframe for construction is estimated to be within 6-12 months.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said Council was unanimously supportive of this proposed development.
“These are two facilities the community is calling for and are needed to sustain the population growth our Shire has had and is still having,” he said.
“This is a well-sized, serviced block in a good location within the Mansfield township, and Council is supportive of another childcare centre and a heated indoor pool, which we think will be well received by the community.”
The proposed site adjoins ‘All Seasons Mansfield’ on the southern boundary and ‘Greenvale Holiday Units’ on the northern boundary - both of which are established accommodation businesses.
The pool is proposed to operate on a pre-booked basis. Groups of between 5 and 8 people will be able to book 30-45 minutes slots to use the pool, in consideration of managing traffic and parking in the area, particularly during peak drop-off and pick-up times.
Energy production at the new development is still being considered, with a geothermal ground heating solution and roof-mounted solar facility both possibilities. The childcare centre is proposed to be managed by a specialist contractor.
