Mansfield Shire Council is renewing its Domestic Animal Management Plan and is asking the community to contribute their thoughts, ideas and priorities as it develops a new plan for the Shire.
Every four years, under the Domestic Animals Act 1994, Councils are required to renew their Domestic Animal Management Plan. Council’s current plan was adopted in April 2018.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said at this early stage, Council was seeking to understand how well the current plan works and opportunities for improvement.
“Pets play an important role in our community – they are members of the family. As our population grows, so too does the number of dogs and cats that coexist with our community, work on our land, share our spaces and contribute to our lifestyle,” said Cr Tehan.
“We want to consider the changing priorities of our community as we draft the plan, which is essentially a rule book for dogs and cats in the Shire. Your contribution helps us to develop a draft plan that suits the needs of everyone our community.”
The draft plan will be also become available for review by the community before it is considered for adoption.
