Mansfield Shire Council has awarded a $546,170 contract to Boral Resources Vic. for its resealing roads program. The program is planned to commence after winter’s wet weather.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said the investment in the road resealing program would enhance safety and productivity for all road users.
“Council is investing more than ever in its roads. This program represents a significant portion of the work we are doing to enhance our road network,” said Cr Tehan.
General Manager Kirsten Alexander said she was looking forward to seeing how the contract innovated the road sealing program.
“For the first time, a binder using recycled rubber tyres will be used in the bitumen. This is a great initiative that enhances the road surface by reducing the amount of cracking, while contributing toward our environment and sustainability goals through the use of recycled used tyres,” said Ms Alexander.
“Roads are prioritised for resealing based on a range of criteria including community feedback and current condition. We take a number of factors into account when selecting roads for inclusion in the program, including traffic and the effects of heavy vehicles.”
Portions of the follow roads are proposed for resealing in the upcoming program:
