Council Awards Contract for Road Re-Sheeting

Published on 20 October 2023

Council’s 2023-24 gravel re-sheeting program for unsealed roads is set to commence later this year, with the tender awarded to Alpine Civil Pty Ltd.

The gravel re-sheeting program involves repairing and renewing priority sections of unsealed roads across the Shire.  Works include adding a new 100mm layer of crushed rock to the road surface, which is then graded, compacted and reshaped.

Installation of new drainage where required, as well as shoulder and table drain reshaping will also be undertaken to improve the drainage of the road surface.

Portions of the following roads are included in the 2023-24 road re-sheeting program:

  • Howes Creek-Goughs Bay Road
  • McKees Lane
  • Three Chain Road
  • Delatite Lane
  • Howqua River Road
  • Pikes Road
  • Monkey Gully Road
  • Shanks Lane
  • Bank Place East Service Road
  • Walshs Road (Polycom)

Mayor Cr James Tehan said this program supports Council's plan to maintain and improve the Shire's extensive road network.

“This program aims to restore unsealed gravel roads that provide critical links for agriculture, business, residents, and visitors,” he said.

“Continuing to maintain and improve roads within our Shire is vital in creating a safer road network and environment for all users.”

Council maintains 581km of unsealed roads across the Shire, however arterial roads such as the Maroondah Highway, Midland Highway and Jamieson-Woods Point Road are maintained by the Department of Transport.

Work is expected to begin in November this year under the $868,439.45 (ex GST) contract awarded to Alpine Civil Pty Ltd.
