Council Awards Contract for Rowe Street Drainage Upgrades
Published on 13 December 2024
After many years of issues with flooding and drainage issues on Rowe Street, Mansfield, a solution to fix these legacy infrastructure problems is underway.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie has said that Council’s program of works included fixing legacy issues from years gone by.
“The community have been asking us to fix the significant issues of flooding and drainage on the road. We are listening and have been able to include these works in our budget this year.
“I’m so pleased to be able to resolve this issue for the community members who use this road. At the end of the day, these works will save money by preserving the road infrastructure.”
The current drainage infrastructure on Rowe Street creates flooding on the road and to nearby property frontages during weather events. The drainage system is insufficient for the flows that come into the area and its large stormwater catchment.
“Basically, we had a large drainage pipe flowing into one that was much too small to handle the volume of water that needed to come through it,” said Cr Rabie.
On Tuesday 10 December 2024, Council awarded a $431,081 contract to Wangaratta Excavations to rectify the long-standing issues on Rowe Street. This includes installation of new kerb, upgrading culverts, pits, headwalls, pipes and cleaning out the open drain. Works are expected to commence next year.
