Council has awarded a record $2.4 million contract to Alpine Civil for its unsealed road resheeting program.
The $2.4m investment will reform and shape existing roads and improve road drainage. It also includes the application of a road stabilising agent to selected high traffic roads to reduce road damage under traffic. Resheeting unsealed roads with a new layer of crushed rock increases the safety, longevity and integrity of our extensive road network. Over time, crushed rock breaks down with weather and traffic.
Mayor Cr Mark Holcombe said investment of this amount of funds is extraordinary for a Council of this size.
“We know unsealed roads are very important to our residents. It’s a priority for our community and we take that seriously. That’s why we’re investing more in unsealed roads than we have ever done before,” said Cr Holcombe.
General Manager Infrastructure & Planning Kirsten Alexander said roads were prioritised for resheeting based on a range of criteria including community feedback and current condition.
“Resheeting improves safety and accessibility for all users. In addition to community feedback, we take a number of factors into consideration when selecting roads for inclusion. Some of these factors are traffic, effects of heavy vehicles, effectiveness of drains, clearance to vegetation and existing pavement thickness and condition,” said Ms Alexander.
