Council joins other Local Governments and Non-Government organisations within the Ovens Murray Region to support the North East Pride Collective (NEPC) by endorsing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the Council Meeting held on Tuesday 21 February.

The NEPC is an advocacy and youth leadership group for LGBTIQA+ young people and their allies. The Collective draws it membership from across the region and the Mansfield Shire Youth Team will support young locals to access their events and activities through its People Respecting Individuality and Sexuality in Mansfield (PRISM) group.

NEPC’s vision is that LGBTIQA+ young people are celebrated, respected, and included throughout the community, and their mission is to provide safe and celebratory spaces, events, and opportunities to empower LGBTIQA+ young people in regional communities across the North east.

Mayor Cr James Tehan said joining the NEPC Network aligns with the Mansfield Shire Youth Strategy 2019-23 to create safe, accessible, and relevant spaces and opportunities for young people to connect with each other, and other members of the local community.

The Engage! 2022-24 program plan outlines Council’s commitment to supporting young people through facilitated support groups for youth who identify as being part of the LGBTIQA+ community and their allies. This will be undertaken through the PRISM group meeting weekly at Mansfield Secondary College with additional events during the year.
