Earthworks are underway for the redevelopment of the Goughs Bay Boat Sport and Recreation Club (GBBSRC) to transform the lakeside venue into a year-round venue offering locals and visitors a place to dine, socialise and entertain.

The Boat Club redevelopment will deliver stunning views, and fulfil the objectives in the Lake Eildon Masterplan to improve access and experiences for visitors to Lake Eildon, grow jobs, and increase visitation to the area. The venue will also operate as a relief centre during bush fires and other emergencies.

Redevelopment works include a new carpark with improved access to the South of the club, along with deconstructing and extending the interior of the first floor, significantly increasing the restaurant and kitchen capacity. Renewal and extension of the downstairs bistro and bar facility will also take place, along with improvements to deck areas.

Mayor Cr James Tehan said he is excited to see works underway and the many benefits that this project will provide for Goughs Bay and the wider community.

“Along with operating as a vital relief centre in times of need, the new upgrades will provide a multipurpose facility for visitor and community use with the ability to cater for various activities and programs” he said.

“We anticipate the redevelopment to create more job opportunities and enhance tourist visitation as a place to enjoy the town’s fantastic lakeside views.”

“Council has been fortunate to partner with the GBBSRC, the Goughs Bay Progress Association (GBPA) and the Community Bank Mansfield & District for this project.”

This project is jointly funded with a $1,515,750 grant from the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions via the Regional Tourism Investment Fund, a contribution of $445,250 from the Boat Club, and a $60,000 donation from the Mansfield and District Community Bank. The total project cost is $2,021,000 and is due for completion June 2024.
