Feedback Received on High Street Car Park Final Design
Published on 01 December 2023
Council has received community feedback on the final designs for the new High Street Car Park through an on-line engagement survey undertaken in October this year.
The final design was created following initial community consultation in 2022, which proposed options for car park access and configuration.
Council officers have considered the community feedback received and have included proposed spaces for a future public toilet and EV charging station/s in Early Street, along with shade and landscaping.
The new car park will include 84 parking spaces (2.6m wide x 5.4m long) with disabled parking, and solar lighting.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie was pleased to see many responses to the survey and thanked the community for their involvement.
“Council values the time the community took in offering their feedback on the final design. We are grateful for your input,” he said.
“The feedback received was taken on board by Council’s Capital Works Team. For any suggestions that are not able to be included in this design, Council will look for other funding or opportunities to include them in future budgets.
“This project will improve community and visitor access to services and local businesses within the town centre, particularly during peak tourist seasons.”
Further feedback was received through the survey on including additional long vehicle and trailer parking. Council recognises the importance of this and will highlight opportunities in Erril or Highett Streets, which currently offer convenient options, through suitable signage or information.
The $458,920.50 contract (ex GST) for the final construction of the car park has been awarded to Alpine Civil Pty Ltd, with works set to commence in early 2024 following the busy summer holiday period.
