Goughs Bay Boat Club Redevelopment Update
Published on 15 December 2023
The redevelopment of the Goughs Bay Boat Sport and Recreation Club is progressing well with the major structural works completed and planning underway for operations over the busy summer holiday period.
The Boat Club redevelopment was a community-driven initiative, and the project is being managed by members of the Boat Club, working closely with Council and the Goughs Bay Area Progress Association, with a project control group that includes State government representatives from Regional Development Victoria. The project supports the Lake Eildon Masterplan objectives to improve access and experiences for visitors to Lake Eildon, as well as providing an important meeting place for the local community. The venue will also operate as a relief centre during bushfires and other emergencies.
Completed works include new steel structural framing and roofing, installation of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing services, and the installation of refrigerated cool rooms.
Works are currently underway to clad the walls, and plaster the downstairs area, along with internal framing of the upstairs area of the venue. These works are anticipated to be completed by Christmas this year. Further updates on the operations of the Boat Club over the holiday season will be provided by the club closer to Christmas.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said he is pleased to see this project progressing, and for the opportunities it will offer for Goughs Bay and the wider community.
“Council has been happy to collaborate with the Boat Club, the Goughs Bay Progress Association, the Victorian Government and the Community Bank Mansfield & District for this project,” he said.
“The Goughs Bay Boat Club redevelopment will enable locals and visitors to take in the breathtaking views across the lake and will support the increasing number of people visiting the area to enjoy Lake Eildon and all it has to offer.
“The venue will also operate as a vital relief centre in times of need and an important community meeting hub.”
