The Goughs Bay Boat Sport and Recreation Club has opened its doors to the public after a major redevelopment having been completed.
Mayor of Mansfield Shire Council Cr Steve Rabie said he was pleased to see the completion of the major initiative.
“Congratulations to everyone involved in this major project,” said Cr Rabie.
“This upgrade of critical community infrastructure is one that supports the local economy and creates opportunities for the community to come together. As well as a meeting space that is fit for all types of use, the venue will also operate as a relief centre during bushfires and other emergencies.
“This represents what can be achieved when the community comes together. Council has been pleased to work with the Goughs Bay Boat Sport and Recreation Club (GBBSRC), Goughs Bay Progress Association (GBPA) and the Community Bank Mansfield & District on this project.
“This is now a year-round, high quality experience for visitors and for locals to enjoy. It progresses the Lake Eildon Masterplan, which opens up Lake Eildon to drive some of the economic benefits of having a natural gem on our doorstep,” Cr Rabie said.
The Boat Club redevelopment was a community-driven initiative, and the project is being managed by members of the Boat Club, working closely with Council and the Goughs Bay Area Progress Association, with a project control group that includes State government representatives from Regional Development Victoria. The project supports the Lake Eildon Masterplan objectives to improve access and experiences for visitors to Lake Eildon, as well as providing an important meeting place for the local community. The venue will also operate as a relief centre during bushfires and other emergencies.
This project is jointly funded with a $1,515,750 grant from the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions via the Regional Tourism Investment Fund, a contribution of $445,250 from the Boat Club, and a $60,000 donation from the Mansfield and District Community Bank.
