The Goughs Bay Streetscape Project has changed in response to community feedback, with plans for a dirt pump track for cyclists no longer progressing as part of the project.

The community consultation was open from 4 - 23 March 2022.

Strong community support was evident for the open space renewal aspects of the project plan. This included beautifying and adding amenity to Goughs Bay with additional picnic tables, lighting along the walking track and drainage improvements.

Mayor Cr James Tehan said Council was pleased to have developed a plan which appropriately represented the community’s vision for Goughs Bay.

“Thank you to everyone who took the time to consider the project plan and provide feedback. We have been able to understand the community’s needs more fully through this community consultation,” said Cr Tehan.

Feedback on the dirt pump track demonstrated concerns about safety, visual appeal and whether the location was appropriate for a track.

“The consultation made it clear that we should not progress with the dirt pump track. We’ll be able to focus on the more strongly supported aspects of the project within the $50,000 budget,” said Cr Tehan.

Due to a mixed response on the dirt pump track, Council will continue to seek opportunities to provide this facility and undertake further consultation about an appropriate location.
