Have your say on the naming of the Dual Court Stadium at Mansfield Secondary College via Engage Victoria.
Officially opened on 25 February 2022, the Dual Court Stadium was a long-awaited and much needed indoor community sports facility. The facility is shared between Mansfield Shire Council and the Mansfield Secondary College and has two full size basketball courts which can also host netball, badminton and indoor soccer.
Construction of the stadium was a joint $6.94million project between Mansfield Shire Council, Mansfield Secondary College, and the Victorian Department of Education. Council contributed $0.97million and received $3.4million funding from the federal government’s Building Better Regions. The Victorian Government contributed $2.57million.
Council has a joint-use agreement with Mansfield Secondary College to operate the stadium outside of school hours for use by local community groups and sporting clubs.
The names put forward for consideration by the Minister for Education are:
- Alex Pullin Stadium - Named after a former student of the College and Olympic snowboarder from the local area (posthumous).
- Beolite View Stadium - This name is a combination of Beolite Hill (which is named after a prominent deceased local Aboriginal leader, Beolite) and the street name (View)where the stadium is located.
- College Park Stadium - This is the name of the sports precinct within the college, including the additional playing fields.
- Dharraga Stadium - Dharraga is a word of the Taungurung people meaning ‘pursuit’.
- Mansfield Secondary College Stadium - Named after the College.
- Yurri Brama Stadium - Yurri Brama is a word of the Taungurung people meaning ‘effort’.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said community consultation undertaken in 2020 supported naming of the complex “Alex Pullin Stadium”, however the name had to be approved by the Minister. This consultation process will assist The Minister for Education to obtain community feedback on the selection of proposed names for the stadium.
“These names were all nominated by a Joint Naming Group, which included members from local sporting groups, Mansfield Secondary College, and Mansfield Shire Council,” he said.
“We know our community has previously had their say with 2500 people voting to name the stadium the “Alex Pullin Stadium” in honour of the local Olympic snowboard Alex (Chumpy) Pullin who sadly passed away in 2020.”
“We encourage all community members to have their say via the Engage Victoria portal before the survey closes on November 8.”
