Have Your Say on Rifle Butts Road Upgrade
Published on 08 December 2023
To have your say on plans to upgrade Rifle Butts Road, Council invites community members to attend an information and feedback forum on Wednesday 13 December 2023 at 5:30pm at Council Chambers, 33 Highett Street.
This upgrade project is part of Council’s $12.3 million IMPACT Route (Integrating Mansfield’s Productivity, Agricultural Communities and Tourism) project that is jointly funded by the Federal Government and Mansfield Shire Council, including development contributions of $1.3m.
The IMPACT project began earlier this year and will upgrade several multipurpose roads, including Highton Lane, Rifle Butts Road and Chapel Hill Road, to improve access and safety for residents, farmers, local businesses and tourists.
The Rifle Butts Road upgrade will include widening and sealing of the road to reduce dust caused by traffic, improve visibility of oncoming traffic, and improve road drainage.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said Council has heard community concerns and is committed to enhancing the safety of Rifle Butts Road.
“We have listened to our community, and we are committed to improving roads across the Shire,” he said.
“The upgrade of Rifle Butts Road is a major part of the IMPACT Route project. The works will improve safety while aiming to retain large native trees and native animal habitats along the road.”
“The feedback obtained from this community forum will help Council to understand what is important to users of Rifle Butts Road and we invite any other interested residents to attend and provide input into the design.”
At this forum Council will also share concept designs to upgrade the one lane major culvert at the Highton Lane end of Rifle Butts Road to two lanes and improve the Rifle Butts Road/Highton Lane/Monkey Gully Road intersection.
