Heavy Vehicle Alternate Route (HVAR) Stage 2 Update

Council is pleased to advise that works on Greenvale Lane are now complete. The works included line marking and installation of signage as part of Stage 2 of the Heavy Vehicle Alternative Route (HVAR).
Works on Mt Battery Road are continuing, with drainage and roadside kerb complete and pavement nearing completion. Upcoming works will include final pavement, pedestrian footpath and crossing points construction before road sealing and line marking.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said Council is pleased works are progressing and once complete, will provide significant benefits to the community.
“The completed section of the heavy vehicle alternative route has provided an improved road surface and drainage along Greenvale Lane, and it is good to see another section of the route completed. Council has invested in this route to redirect heavy vehicles away from residential areas and Mansfield’s central business district,” he said.
“This will have ongoing benefits for the community, including improved road surfaces and intersection alignment, and enhanced road safety and traffic flow.”
Further works on HVAR Stage 2 will take place on Dead Horse Lane between Midland Highway and Mansfield-Whitfield Road, with works expected to commence in late October, weather permitting.
These works include intersection modifications, road widening, improvement of the road surface and roadside drainage to deal with the projected increase in heavy vehicle traffic.
“Council is committed to improving infrastructure across the Shire and we look forward to seeing these works move closer to completion,” added Mayor Tehan.
As part of a $2.38 million contract, the tender was awarded to North East Civil Constructions, who completed the works for Stage 1. This project is part of Council’s long-term traffic and transport strategy and is jointly funded by the Australian Government and Mansfield Shire Council.
Council has budgeted $2.6 million for both Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the project and has received $1.95 million from the Australian Government’s Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program.
