Significant improvements have been made within Council’s statutory planning department because of a review undertaken in early 2020. Nearly 90% of permits are now issued within the required State Government timeframes which is a 30% increase on the previous year.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said that the statutory planning team had been working hard to improve timeframes.
“Town planning was identified in community satisfaction surveys and through various forms of feedback as an area that needed improvement,” said Cr Tehan.
“The team has made great strides so far and things aren’t slowing down. There is an increasing number of applications each month and ensuring turnaround times that are consistent with community expectations continues to be a priority.
“We know our community is interested in how Mansfield is growing, and we are working hard to make sure the things we value most about Mansfield are maintained while this growth continues. To do this, we’re investing staff and resources in our strategic planning program.
“As well as processing an increasing number of planning applications, Council has adopted the Commercial and Industrial Land Use Strategy, the Mansfield Planning Strategy and progressed 7 different amendments to the planning scheme through State Government processes.”
The amendments are designed to protect amenity as the Mansfield Shire population grows, reduce red tape and remove redundant planning overlays across the municipality. They include:
