Improved Guardrails for Malcolm Street Culvert Crossing

Published on 06 April 2023

Works will commence on Monday 17 April to improve the guardrails on the existing culvert near 200 Malcolm Street over Owens Creek.

Waratah Bridge Constructions Pty Ltd has been awarded the Council funded contract of $27,216 (ex GST) as part of the Malcolm Street Culvert Widening Project, which involved the widening of the existing culvert crossing in December 2022.

Works will include extension of guardrails and installation of new end terminals aimed at improving road safety. Works will take place between 7am and 5pm and will be completed in one day.

Mayor Cr James Tehan said these upgraded guardrails will enhance safety for all users of the road.

“Council has a strong commitment to improving safety on our roads for our community,” he said.

“This section of road provides access to town for the growing number of residents in Howes Creek Road. These safety improvements to the guardrails will help to reduce the risk of accidents, making this section of the road safer for all road users.”

While works are underway, the road will remain open as a single lane with traffic management in place. Drivers are advised to travel safely and follow the directions of traffic controllers and road signage when travelling in the area.
