Jamieson Awarded Grant for Community Hub Design
Published on 16 June 2023
Council congratulates the Jamieson Community Hub Committee on their successful grant application for the Disaster Ready Fund. An amount of $60,000 will go towards the design of a new Community Hub building at the Jamieson Police Paddock.
In May this year Council provided support for the proposed location of the project on Council-owned land in Brown Street, adjacent to the Jamieson CFA shed and Jamieson Police Station.
Since 2021, when the Jamieson Community Hub Committee was formed, they have worked hard to investigate use of the vacant land in Brown Street, and Council is delighted to see this effort acknowledged.
“Congratulations to the Jamieson Community Hub Committee on this successful grant application,” said Mayor Cr James Tehan.
“We’ve seen a lot of dedication and volunteer effort from this group, who have consulted widely and worked hard to bring a venue like this to the Jamieson community, and it’s fantastic to see them take a huge step forward in its progress.”
The Jamieson Community Hub will have multiple purposes including:
- Operation as a multifunctional community facility for community activities and local events
- Providing a location for visiting medical, nursing and welfare services to operate
- Providing storage capacity for local community groups
- Providing additional storage capacity for local emergency services including CFA, SES and Ambulance Victoria
- Opportunity for a community garden for the benefit of the wider community.
“The venue will also act as a place of last resort in the event of bushfire, a Forward Command Post during emergency events, and operate as a relief staging area post emergency event,” added Mayor Tehan.
“Council is delighted to be able to support this project and make a financial contribution of $18,000 through the Council Assist Fund.”
In this round of Disaster Ready Fund grants, Council was not successful in its application for the Resilience Centre at the Mansfield Emergency Services Precinct and will be seeking feedback from Emergency Management Victoria for use in future applications for this project.
