Library Refurbishment

Mansfield Library is set to be refurbished and images of the new design have been released for public feedback.

Community members are invited to find out more about the $543,511 refurbishment which will be fully funded by the Victorian State Government and speak directly with the architects and staff at a community drop-in session at the Library on Thursday 17 February, 10.30am-1pm.

Deputy Mayor Cr Mark Holcombe said that the new layout was welcoming, contemporary and engaging for all ages.

“We’re proud that our library is a fun place for children to learn and connect, and the new layout enhances the ways community members can use the space,” said Cr Holcombe.

“The natural design elements reflect Mansfield Shire’s unique character while creating points of interest for children.

“A lot of consideration has gone into every element of the new design and we are proud to share it with the community. The drop-in session provides an opportunity to speak directly to the architects and to the team who have contributed to the project.”

The new layout is self-navigating and intuitive while retaining spaces for socialisation, study or remote work. It includes the existing meeting spaces which can be hired by the public. There will be a larger dedicated children’s space, which will be positioned at the opposite end of the Library to the study space to allow for quieter work.

Sustainability improvements include improved ventilation and temperature control, installation of new energy efficient lighting, double glazing and improved insulation, which will reduce energy use and operating costs.

Staff workspaces have also been enhanced, with increased efficiencies and safer spaces a key feature of the new design. The mural, donated by Ghadaba Local Aboriginal Network (GLAN) in 2014, has been incorporated into the new design and remains a significant feature of the Library.

This project has been funded with $543,511 from the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
