Mansfield District Hospital to Provide Home and Community Care

Council welcomes the Commonwealth Government’s announcement that Mansfield District Hospital will become the main provider of aged care services.
Prior to Council’s decision last year to cease providing direct home and community care services after 30 June 2022, Council consulted broadly to understand the community’s needs around aged care. The community’s key concern was that a provider of home and community care services should be local, have demonstrated capacity and be trusted and accessible.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said Council was delighted that Mansfield District Hospital had been approved as the main provider.
“These are vital services for our community and it’s of the utmost importance that the main provider of these services meets the community’s expectations for quality, is trusted and accessible. We’re confident that the hospital is well placed to meet these needs,” said Cr Tehan.
“The hospital has a great track record. It provides a continuum of services to our community and is well equipped to provide the full suite of home and community care services. That’s why we have worked closely with them in support of their application to become the main provider of these services for our community.”
Council is currently the main provider of home and community care services in Mansfield Shire. The service agreement, which ends on 30 June, includes services such as home care, personal care, home maintenance, planned activities groups, carer’s respite, Meals on Wheels and volunteer transport.
“With this confidence, Council will continue to work with the Hospital over the coming months to ensure a seamless handover for our clients.
“Council will continue to advocate and plan to ensure the needs of older people in our community are met,” said Cr Tehan.
