Mansfield's Citizen Awards 2022 Announced

Margaretanne Hood, who has led the establishment of Mansfield’s COVID Clinic, has been announced as the 2022 Mansfield Shire Citizen of the Year at Council’s Australia Day event on 26 January.
Throughout her 38-year career in the health sector, Margaretanne has made an outstanding and sustained contribution to the overall health of our community and more recently returned from retirement to take up the challenge of establishing and running the excellent COVID Clinic in Mansfield.
Cr James Tehan said Margaretanne’s award reflected her leadership, skill and dedication.
“Margaretanne Hood epitomises the dedication and care of our healthcare professionals. I’m delighted to acknowledge her work and the sustained contributions she’s made to the health of our community during her career,” said Cr Tehan.
Australia Day award winners were also announced across four other categories.
- Zaldah Kirley, Senior Citizen of the Year
- Riley Tanner, Young Citizen of the Year
- Mansfield Men’s Shed, Community Group or Organisation
- Mansfield Autism Statewide Services (MASS), Community Event of the Year Award for the Mansfield Rideathon.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said that he and his fellow Councillors were honoured to have made the announcements.
“The depth and calibre of nominations this year was outstanding. These community leaders and organisations are examples of what makes Mansfield Shire such a wonderful place to live,” said Cr Tehan.
“I want to acknowledge everyone who was nominated for an award. We thank you for the time, skill and energy you have dedicated to making Mansfield Shire the vibrant, inclusive, caring and supportive community it is,” said Cr Tehan.
“Congratulations to our award winners. We are proud to be able to recognise the contributions you have made to our community.”
Award winners were selected by a judging panel comprising the Mayor, Cr. James Tehan, Cr Steve Rabie, Cr Mark Holcombe, last year’s Citizen of the Year, Gill Belle and a representative from Mansfield Autism Statewide Services (MASS); the recipient of last year’s Award for Community Group or Organisation.
