Three new mobile towers for Mansfield Shire have received approval for funding – one in Bonnie Doon and two in the Mansfield township, as part of the Connecting Victoria Program.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said Council had worked to ensure the community’s needs were heard and would continue to advocate for the highest quality network.
“We are thrilled to hear the announcement that Mansfield Shire will receive new telecommunications infrastructure,” said Cr Tehan.
“Connectivity is critical for our community. As our population increases and the number of people in our Shire ebbs and flows with visitation, we are often put in the vulnerable position of having our communications fail.
“That’s why we have lobbied the Victorian Government and telecommunications providers to come to the party and help create the infrastructure we need to maintain our connection.
“Good telecommunications infrastructure keeps our economy running, our education system accessible and our community connected.”
In addition to co-funding the new towers, Telstra are providing funding for a broadband solution to be delivered in Merrijig to support the community and high visitation events on the network. Telstra will also begin rolling out the 5G network across Mansfield, Bonnie Doon and Mt Buller, which will allow greater volumes of use on the existing towers.
The announcement has been made as part of the $550 million Connecting Victoria program.
