Council has purchased a new Caterpillar 140 grader and work has already begun on grading after its delivery on Thursday 17 February.

The replacement grader was purchased through a competitive tender process at a cost of $477,400. It replaces the much older Caterpillar 12H, which has served the Shire since 2005.

Mayor Cr James Tehan said the Shire’s extensive road network was the Council’s focus for investment.

“We have more than 580 kilometres of unsealed road to look after, so having robust, efficient equipment helps us to keep those roads in good shape in the short term and to minimise the costs of repairs in the long term,” said Cr Tehan.

“The old grader served more than seventeen years on our roads, clocking up more than 10,300 hours. We are proud to be in a position to invest in the right equipment to continue to look after our vast road network.”

There are three graders in Council’s fleet. Also in the fleet are three smooth drum rollers and three water carts, allocated to each grading crew to round out the maintenance grading or re-sheeting process.
