Recent improvements to the public toilet have been warmly welcomed by the Jamieson community and are now ready for use by visitors to Jamieson over the busy holiday period. A $214,000 renovation has been completed providing the dated Perkins Street facility with a very modern refurbishment.

Together with new roofing, painting and lighting, improvements include automatic hands-free taps, high powered automatic electric hand dryers and high-quality stainless-steel toilets. Wall tiling throughout the facility gives a modern fresh feel which is further enhanced by new epoxy floor coatings.

Additional toilet cubicles have been added in both the ladies and men’s areas with a baby change table featured in the all-gender accessible toilet.

When thanking the Jamieson Community Group for their assistance in identifying the elements to be included in the upgrade, Mayor Cr James Tehan acknowledged that clean public amenities contribute to the town’s amenity, character and the visitor experience.

“The existing toilets were no longer meeting the needs of the community and the increasing number of visitors to the Jamieson area, which is only expected to continue to increase with the current high lake levels,” he said.

“The new facility will now adequately meet community needs and provide improved facilities for visitors well into the future.”

Maintenance renewal works have also been completed at the Tolmie wayside stop public toilets with a new 3,000 litre rainwater tank and new concealed toilet cisterns. The Woods Point facility has also received an upgrade that includes the installation of new cisterns following last years’ conversion to stainless steel toilets.
