New Shared Path in Goughs Bay

Published on 09 February 2024

Following the development of concept plans for a new shared path between the Goughs Bay township and Mountain Bay Drive, community members are invited to provide feedback on the proposal.

The Goughs Bay Area Progress Association (GBAPA) has worked with Mansfield Shire Council to progress the concept plans for the path, which was included in Council’s Footpath and Shared Path Strategy in response to feedback from the local community. The new shared path is proposed to provide a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists along this well-used section of the Piries-Goughs Bay road, connecting the Goughs Bay township with local destinations including the Maze and the Mountain Bay community.

The proposal is for a new 2.5m wide compacted gravel shared path. It will start in the Goughs Bay township opposite the General Store and extend to the High Country Gardens Gallery & Maze. The design includes a crossing point to enable the path to continue along the south-eastern side of Piries-Goughs Bay Road and extend up to the intersection of Mountain Bay Drive. Concept design drawings are available on Council’s Engage website, with a bold blue line showing the proposed new path location. Council is planning to commence construction this financial year and continue into next financial year, with the path to be constructed in stages as funding allows.

Mayor Steve Rabie said the new shared path will enhance safety for all users of the path and improve access to popular local destinations.

“This is an exciting project for the Goughs Bay community and has been a great collaboration with the Goughs Bay Area Progress Association. We look forward to hearing what community members have to say on the plans for the path.

“The new shared path is aimed at enhancing safety, accessibility and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, providing an off-road path that is separated from traffic,” he said.

Des Haberman from GBAPA said “We are thrilled to see this project progressing. It was a key initiative in the Goughs Bay Community Plan and we encourage the community to provide their input and feedback.”
