Six new streetlights have been installed on existing power poles between Kidston Parade and Apollo Street (north side) as part of the Malcolm Street $240,000 shared path construction.

The new standard streetlights are 18W LED lanterns which offer a brighter, longer lasting, cost effective and more sustainable light source aligning with the objectives identified in Council’s Draft Climate Action Plan.

Mayor Cr James Tehan says Malcolm Street is a busy thoroughfare in the Mansfield township and it is exciting to see one of Council’s significant infrastructure projects progressing.

“These streetlights will contribute towards safer travel and improved connection for Malcolm Street residents to and from town,” he said.

“After years of lobbying, Council successfully obtained grant funding for the shared pathway and we are pleased to see it moving forward.

“This project has been a collaboration with community, and Council is pleased to be able to deliver on its aspiration to empower community members to engage in projects that improve their safety, and their town.”

Mansfield Shire Council currently is seeking to engage the services of an experienced and qualified contractor to complete the shared path construction on the north side of Malcolm Street. Works are expected to commence in the new year when there is more favourable weather.

This project is jointly funded by Council and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) through the TAC Local Government Grant Program and was undertaken by Ausnet’s preferred contractor, Downer.
