Peggy Aeschlimann talk on Anne Fraser Bon at Library
Published on 08 April 2022
Council is inviting community members to hear about one of Mansfield’s most intriguing historical figures, Anne Fraser Bon.
Mansfield Shire Council Librarian Justine Shelton said anyone with an interest in local history would appreciate the story of the philanthropist.
“We’re thrilled to host Peggy Aeschlimann, who will share the story about the role Anne Fraser Bon played in Mansfield’s History,” said Ms Shelton.
“Peggy’s enthusiasm is infectious and the talk promises to engage and entertain those who want to hear about this strong woman who shaped local and national history.”
A unique and formidable woman, Anne Fraser Bon formed strong relationships with Aboriginal people in the area, many of whom she employed as station hands on her property, Wappan Station, which was a common Aboriginal camping ground on which many traditional ceremonies were held.
Anne Fraser Bon was the only woman to serve on the Aboriginal Protection Board and was known for her activism on behalf of Aboriginal people.
Peggy Aeschlimann has worked closely with Serena Bon Wells, Anne’s great-great-granddaughter, to create a historically accurate biographical fiction of Anne’s life: ‘Thistle to Wattle: The Anne Fraser Bon Story’. The book will be published later this year.
“We’re very lucky to be able to host a talk about this giant in our local history and we encourage people to book to hear about the life and times of Anne Fraser Bon,” said Ms Shelton.
