Ready, Set, Go for Targa in February 2023

Targa High Country (THC) will return to Mansfield Shire between 10 – 12 February 2023 following the issuing of a conditional permit at the November Council meeting. The event will include the family friendly TargaFest event in Mansfield on Saturday 11 February.
THC will be run over three legs utilising the Skyline Road around Lake Eildon, Mount Buller Road and the Tolmie Whitfield Road.
Safety concerns in relation to the Mansfield Street Stage were raised at the debrief meeting following the 2022 event. This, together with the review by Motorsport Australia following a fatality in the Targa Tasmania event, has prompted the change to the course design and the decision not include the street stage in next year’s event.
Mark Perry, Targa CEO said concerns were raised at the 2022 debrief meeting about the safety of spectators during the street stage in Mansfield.
“As a result, and in consultation with Council, it was determined not to have the street stage included in the application for this year’s event,” he said.
TargaFest will be all systems go with a huge line up of activities including:
- Slot car racing
- Driving simulators
- Jumping castles
- Delatite car club show-n-shine
- Targa cars on display.
A new addition to the day will be the Shannons Insurance competitive ‘show-n-shine’ presented by Mansfield Car Club which will see Highett Street play host to a range of vehicles in a judged competition from midday with music and food to kick off TargaFest.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said Targa was a major event which brought significant economic benefit to the community.
“Feedback from our businesses indicate that the event results in a significant increase in visitors and the Targa teams also come to the area before, during and after the event to enjoy more of what our region has to offer,” said Cr Tehan.
