Reseal Preparation Works
Published on 27 May 2022
Road preparation works will begin across Mansfield Shire this month with many key roads being prepared for resealing in spring this year.
Council’s $184,591 reseal preparation contract was awarded to Countrywide Asphalt. The contractor will undertake the preparation works throughout June with allowance in the program for wet weather.
The preparation works include removal and replacement of existing road sections to address rutting, cracks and potholes to ensure the best sealing outcome. This preparation helps to ensure the road is ready for resealing and that the best result is achieved when the actual resealing works are undertaken.
“This year we have invested more than ever before in our roads,” said Mayor Cr James Tehan.
“Concern about our roads is identified as one of the key issues in our Community Satisfaction Survey each year and we understand how important our road network is for our economy and community,” said Cr Tehan.
General Manager Infrastructure and Planning Kirsten Alexander said a number of factors were taken into consideration when prioritising roads for inclusion in the resealing program.
“We are always listening to community feedback and reviewing current conditions, surface defects and the effects of heavy vehicles on our roads when determining those that require the most urgent attention,” said Ms Alexander.
“The roads scheduled for works are those deemed in the most pressing need for attention,” she continued.
The existing sealed sections of the following roads are scheduled to undergo reseal preparation works:
- Apollo Street, Mansfield
- Curia Street, Mansfield
- Olympic Street, Mansfield
- Kidston Parade, Mansfield
- Nillahcootie Road, Barjarg
- Merton – Strathbogie Road, Merton
- O’Hanlon Road, Mansfield
- Howes Creek Road, Mansfield
- Crosby Street, Mansfield
- Monkey Gully Road, Mansfield
Traffic management will be in place between 7am and 5pm whilst the works are underway in these areas, and we apologise for any disruptions or inconvenience caused. Access to affected businesses and premises will be maintained during these times. To facilitate access during school drop off and pick up periods the works in Apollo Street will pause between 8am-9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm.
