Tender Awarded for the Mansfield Historical Museum

Council is thrilled to announce the tender for the new Mansfield Heritage Museum project has been awarded to Hennessy Constructions Pty Ltd for $1,477,559.90 (ex GST).
This museum will be located at Mansfield Station Precinct and will showcase the region’s history through memorabilia and artefacts. Work is planned to commence in November 2023 with anticipated completion of the Stage 1 construction works by June 2024.
The construction works for Stage 1 will include the installation of foundations, wall framing, trusses, external metal roofing and cladding as well as the installation of doors and windows, effectively completing the build to lock up stage. Further works to complete the museum fit-out (Stage 2 works) will commence at a future date once construction of the museum structure is complete.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said once complete the new museum will offer visitors and community members an exciting opportunity to explore and learn about our local history.
“The Mansfield Heritage Museum will be a significant addition to the community,” he said.
“It will be an inviting and accessible space for people of all ages to explore our rich, shared history.
“The museum will also present an active gateway to the Mansfield township. It will have the potential to host community events, celebrate local Indigenous history, and provide fantastic educational opportunities.
“We look forward to seeing these works commence.”
Federal Member for Indi, Dr Helen Haines, said the Mansfield Heritage Museum will tell the story of where we have come from, who we are, and where we are going.
“Mansfield has a rich history, and this will offer something to those who have lived in the area all their lives, those who are new to town, and our traditional owners who have been here for tens of thousands of years,” she said.
“Everybody has a place and everybody can find a connection.
“I am proud that the Federal Government will be contributing funding to the Museum, which will be an important economic contributor to the tourism sector.”
This project is a collaboration between Mansfield Historical Society and their partners in the project, including Mansfield Shire Council, Mansfield Cultural Heritage and Arts Centre (MCHAC), Community Bank Mansfield & District, Taungurung Land and Waters Council (TLaWC) and the Gadhaba Local Aboriginal Network (GLAN).
The Historical Museum project was jointly funded by the Australian Government, Mansfield Historical Society, The Community Bank Mansfield & District and MCHAC and Mansfield Shire Council. Australian Government funding of $1.18 million was provided through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.
The project funding includes significant community donations to the construction works, with contributions from Mansfield Historical Society, The Community Bank Mansfield & District and MCHAC of approximately $114,164 in total. Council is also contributing $362,500 for this project.
