Tender Awarded for the Monkey Gully Road Gravel Shared Path
Published on 21 December 2023
Following community consultation in September 2023, Council has awarded the Monkey Gully Road Gravel Shared Path construction to Reducing Bushfire Risk Civil and Hire Pty Ltd.
With construction due to commence in the new year, the new path aims to provide improved connectivity along the eastern side of Monkey Gully Road, connecting with existing paths leading to the centre of the Mansfield township.
It will consist of a new 2.5m wide compacted gravel shared path of approximately 1.2km in length, between 21 Monkey Gully Road up to the intersection of Highton Lane and Monkey Gully Road.
Further works will include culverts, signage and safety handrails, linemarking for a shared path lane in front of the DEECA building on Highett Street, construction of a concrete section near 2 Farrall Court, and tree trimming and signage relocation.
Mayor Cr Steve Rabie thanked the community for their feedback and said Council looks forward to seeing the improvement this project makes to connectivity and safety in the area.
“Council is grateful for the feedback received from the community on this project,” he said.
“This new shared path will provide safer access to local schools and to the town centre and will help to support the growing community.”
“We are excited to see this project progress.”
Independent Federal Member for Indi Helen Haines welcomed the next stage of the project.
“As Mansfield grows it is necessary that road infrastructure is developed to support the community. The new shared path will make it safer for locals and visitors walking and riding along Monkey Gully Road,” Dr Haines said.
“A total of $3,343,219.00 has been allocated to Mansfield Shire across all four phases of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. This federal funding makes a big difference to Council’s ability to deliver projects that improve the accessibility, connectivity and safety of local roads and paths.”
The $137,457.09 (excl GST) project is jointly funded by Mansfield Shire Council and the Australian Government through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCIP). This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.
