Award-winning musician Jacoténe has been described as a one-in-a-million talent and now Mansfield Shire Council has secured the artist to perform as part of the High Country Festival opening night on Friday 28 October 2022.
The Triple J Unearthed High 2022 winner will perform at the FReeZA concert as part of the opening festivities. The 16-year-old solo artist won the award with the entry of her track I Need Therapy. Her voice has been described as reminiscent of Amy Winehouse and Adele. She appeals to a multi-generational audience, with her TikTok account featuring covers from a huge range of artists, from Matt Corby to Ella James and Kate Bush to Sam Cooke.
Lucy Smith, host of Triple J mornings said about Jacoténe that “I am both parts impressed and terrified by your talent”.
Mayor Cr James Tehan said he was excited that Mansfield was able to pull such a huge name for the event.
“Jacoténe has recently been announced for the Laneway Festivals Australia-wide, so having her perform at this Festival is a great opportunity for our community,” said Cr Tehan.
“There aren’t always great opportunities for this level of talent to perform in Mansfield Shire. We’re thrilled that we can provide experiences that appeal to young people in our community.”
Also featuring on the FReeZA lineup is a range of talented local artists with performances from Rhythm Stix, MAD Dance Studios, 5-piece rock band Vivid and Rose & Scarlett Hanratty.
The event is made possible by the Victorian State Government FReeZA youth program. All FReeZA events are drug, smoke and alcohol-free.
The event takes place from 5pm Friday 28 October in Erril Street, Mansfield.
