Council is pleased to announce the Open Space Works at the Goulburn River Reserve in Woods Point are now complete, with the addition of a new picnic shelter, gas barbecue and picnic setting.

Improvement works were also conducted on Coster Street following safety concerns raised by residents. These works included widening of the road, lowering the crest, installation of guardrails and guideposts along with a traffic mirror.

Safety works were also completed at the Transfer Station and included repairing the access platform, welding the existing hinges on the gates, and the construction of a new compacted crushed rock hardstand at the bin areas to improve access.

Mayor Cr Steve Rabie said Council was pleased to see the completion of these important works for the Woods Point community.

“Council has listened to the feedback from the Woods Point community on what was important to them. The new open space facilities are now ready for everyone to enjoy with their loved ones, and in perfect time for summer,” he said.

“The works on Coster Street and at the Transfer Station will greatly improve safety for Woods Point locals and visitors alike.

“These improvements are a great example of Council’s commitment to deliver on projects that respond to community feedback and improve community wellbeing and safety across our Shire, including outlying areas like Woods Point.”

The completion of the safety works was welcomed by Independent Federal Member for Indi Helen Haines.

“Road safety is a key issue that people talk to me about. I’m pleased that the upgrades to Coster Street and improved accessibility to the Transfer Station were identified as priorities by the community, and the Council have delivered that with the help of federal funding,” Dr Haines said.

“With more than 75 per cent of Australia’s road network owned and managed by local governments, it is important that local people have a say in the how roads are upgraded and maintained.

“We get better results for our regional towns when infrastructure projects have community input.”

As part of the open space works, the picnic shelter was supplied and installed by ASCO, picnic setting supplied by Landmark Pro, gas barbecue supplied by Christie DA, and the installation of the barbecue and picnic settings was completed by Blue Range Plumbing.

The open space works and transfer station works were funded by Council for a total cost of $53,155.20 (ex GST).

The works on Coster Street and at the Transfer Station were completed by Alpine Civil Pty Ltd. The Coster St works were jointly funded by Mansfield Shire Council and the Australian Government. Council contributed $18,756.

The Australian Government funding of $31,244 is provided through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCIP). This program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia.
