Youth Emergency Services Panel Success

Mansfield Shire Council’s Youth Services partnered with Australian Red Cross to deliver an Emergency Services Panel to the Mansfield Shire Community on Monday 25 September.

The panel included the Country Fire Authority (CFA), State Emergency Services (SES), Mansfield Shire Council, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA), Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, Telstra, AusNet, NBN, Agriculture Victoria, Alpine Resorts Victoria (ARV), and Red Cross.

The event was held at the Youth Centre on Erril Street and provided an opportunity for local emergency services to introduce themselves, answer questions, speak about what they do and what the community can expect from them as well as how individuals can prepare themselves for natural disasters.

Youth Program Officer, Liz Bird said the event was a fantastic collaboration made possible through the Youth Affairs Council ‘Future Proof’ funding initiative from the Federal Government’s Black Summer bushfire fund.

“Future Proof’s aim is to educate young people on natural disasters in potential affected areas and build the resilience of those young people,” said Liz.

Red Cross presenter and co-facilitator Jessica Davidson said they were thrilled to work with Mansfield Shire Council to bring the event to the local community.

“We are lucky to have the local emergency services that we do in the area and are grateful they were able to come speak to the community,” said Jessica.

Council’s Youth Team are still looking for young people to join their Youth Advisory Group, which is looking for young people to represent their community and talk to the youth team about their needs in the Mansfield Shire. The YAG is held each Wednesday 4PM at Mansfield Youth Centre and is a paid initiative.
