So, what is it?
Mondays (8-12 years old)
Introduction to coding and focusing on SCRATCH.
Scratch is a super easy way to Introduce kids to the programming logic without overwhelming them with typing out code. It's a super accessible drag and drop interface that helps kids focus on the logic behind coding (that's the most important bit!)
By using drag and drop blocks of code the kids can make complicated loops and segments of code they can interact with like a game. They can tweak things as they go and unleash their creativity. - sometimes with hilarious results.
Scratch is also powerful enough to provide code for physical robots and serious bits of tech if needed. And we will explore these avenues as we go.
These courses also align with the Australian Digital Technologies Curriculum - giving kids a headstart in any career in tech
Wednesdays (12+)
For our older kids (12+) our awesome volunteer Justin has developed his own course curriculum - They are advanced beyond the basic stuff and we need to keep them entertained!
This group are focused on HTML/CSS
For the uninitiated this is the raw code that runs every page on the Internet. It is extremely powerful and flexible and provides excellent programming logic grounding for anyone looking to know more in the field.
The brainstorming a website or e-commerce store and are building it from absolute scratch, line by line. Each week we introduce new elements for them to work with and consider and (all things going well) will have a beautiful functional site by the end of term!
